How long have you been a member of COLBA?
About 2 1/2 years.
What do you appreciate most about COLBA membership?
Getting to know peers in the industry and working together with them in a team environment.
Tell us about your CRE background:
I spent a couple of years as an asset manager running a portfolio of properties. After that I joined Equis in 1991 and have been here now for over 25 years.
What is your advice for young brokers starting out in the industry?
Work super hard, be patient and align yourself with people that can help you win. You don’t need to be an expert at anything…you need to find the experts at everything.
What do you expect to see in the CRE market for 2016?
I expect to see the market “bump along”. I think landlords are going to need to get more aggressive as the year goes on as the new buildings are coming online and there is concern about filling vacant space.
What do you hope to accomplish as a COLBA Board Member?
Form relationships that will continue into the future and help to plan some neat events. I’d also like to build membership. There are still a lot of brokers that don’t join COLBA since they get invited to a lot of the events by landlords. That needs to change.
What are some of your philanthropic associations?
Lungevity, JDRF. I’d like to get more involved and volunteer more of my time as my kids are getting older and I have more free time.
What do you like to do in your free time?
Travel, golf, spend time with friends, run.
If you weren’t in Real Estate what would you like to be doing…
Great question and I don’t have a good answer. It’s hard to believe but I have been in real estate for over 27 years. I’m not sure what I would do if I weren’t in RE.
Most folks don’t know that I am…
I am from Minneapolis and I’m a big Minnesota sports fan – Vikings, Twins, Timberwolves, etc. I’m also a big Bruce Springsteen and Howard Stern fan. I’d like to have dinner with each of them one day!
